Decontamination Equipment
The FOam BAsed DeCON 100 module is designed for mobile and stationary use in larger decontamination facilities.
The module is based on Iturri's novel, effective foam decontamination process. This process was developed for effective and environmentally friendly decontamination and allows the equipment to be used for radioactive, biological and chemical contamination. In this process, a foam decon additive is first added to the water used, followed by a decon additive.
Which additive is used depends on the type of contamination. Several proven and effective decon additives are available (e.g. for foot-and-mouth disease, anthrax, SARS, chemical hazardous substances including warfare agents, etc.). Compressed air is then added to the water/decon additive mixture in a special mixing chamber. This creates a microcellular, flowable foam that is applied to the surfaces to be decontaminated. The effect of this decon foam is based on the physical-chemical properties of the microcellular foam and the chemical reactivity of the decontamination additive.
Structure
Advantages of the foam decontamination process compared to conventional processes are:
- universally applicable for the decontamination of nuclear, biological and chemical pollutants
- lowest water consumption (only approx. 0.5 l/m²), thus only a small volume of waste water and low disposal costs
- environmentally friendly, highly effective additives for fastest and most effective decontamination easy operation
- almost pressureless application of the foam, no aerosol formation whatsoever
- also suitable for sensitive equipment such as hand-held radios, compressed air breathing apparatus and measuring instruments
- without decon additive (i.e. only with surfactants, e.g. GT 1 or GT 3), the process is already ideally suited for cleaning tasks (e.g. for oils and greases, GT 3). The entire control of the system as well as the drive of the pump is pneumatic.
- An electrical supply is not necessary.

1. water supply:
Suction by an integrated diaphragm pump, which is pneumatically driven. It can draw water from a tank.
External connection via D-Storz coupling. This is equipped with a pressure reducer with filter. The inlet pressure should not be higher than 8 bar. Switching by means of 3-way cock.
2. compressed air supply:
Quick-connect coupling for compressed air supply by means of a compressor. The inlet air pressure should not exceed 8 bar. The compressed air inlet is equipped with a pressure reducer with compressed air dryer.
3. proportioner:
The module has 2 separately adjustable, water-hydraulically driven proportional proportioning mixers. The first proportioner is used for dosing the surfactant additive. The proportioning rate can be infinitely adjusted manually between 0.5 and 4 %. The second proportioner is used to meter the decon additive. The proportioning rate can be manually set to between 5 % and 25 %.
Both proportioners are equipped with a quick coupling for the suction hoses of the decon additives.
The decontamination additives depend on the areas of application. The following are available:
- # 600133 GT1 decon additive (can be used together with GA1)
- # 25011 GT3 Decon additive (can be used together with GB1 or GC1)
- # 600408 GA1 Decon additive for atomic decon, (deradiation), containing citric acid
- # 133449 GB3 Decon additive for biological decon (disinfection), containing peracetic acid
- # 600060 GC1 decon additive for chemical decon, containing hydrogen peroxide
4. foaming module:
In the foaming module, the air is injected into the decontamination additive water mixture to produce foam.
5. outlets:
2 outlets with D-coupling and manual stopcock are available:
- 1 outlet foam (yellow)
- 1 outlet water (blue)
The outlets can supply hand lines and nozzle lines.
